SELECT ENTRY LEARNING PROGRAM (SELP)

WERRIBEE SECONDARY COLLEGE | Live Worthily

SELP is a select entry program developed to address the special learning needs of students who demonstrate high levels of commitment and high levels of achievement.

Through the combination of a specially designed Curriculum, well-practiced teaching expertise, and a developed culture of high expectations, students are challenged and motivated towards even higher levels of achievement.

Please note that the school zoning requirements for enrolment also apply for SELP.

A PROGRAM OF HIGH EXPECTATIONS & HIGH ACHIEVEMENTS

SELP at Werribee Secondary College features a challenging academic curriculum, full participation in arts, sports and technology, a wide range of co-curricular activities, an advanced instrumental program. Students collaborate in a class for core subjects with supportive and highly motivated peers. Our SELP graduates have been among our highest achievers in both IBDP and VCE results at the end of Year 12.

ENTRY TO THE SELP PROGRAM

In line with the Department of Education’s placement policy for enrolment, Werribee Secondary College only offer places in our Select Entry Learning Program (SELP) to students who are already enrolled in the College. Please note that all new enrolments at the college must reside within our designated school zone.

YEAR 7:
Students currently in Grade 6 wishing to apply for SELP in Year 7 must first accept their place at Werribee Secondary College through the Primary to Secondary placement process. This process takes place with the students Primary School during terms 2 and 3 of their Grade 6 school year (see our enrolments page for more). Families with placements can then express their interest in SELP when enrolling with our college in July/August. Only families who follow this process will be emailed directly with the testing registration information. A fee applies to undertake the testing.

YEARS 8, 9, 10:
Students entering Years 8, 9 or 10 no longer sit an external examination to be considered for SELP. Only existing Werribee Secondary College students who have demonstrated commitment to their studies and high levels of achievement on the criteria below will be considered should SELP places open up for the following year. Werribee Secondary College students will be invited to join SELP in Year 8, 9 or 10 based on:

  • High Grade Point Average (GPA) on Progress Reports throughout the year
  • High performance on NAPLAN (Current Year 7 and Year 9 only)
  • High performance on both PAT-R and PAT-M in Term 4
  • Semester 1 report that demonstrates the capability to achieve above their grade level

Invitations for eligible students will be made in Term 4 as we become aware of possible exits from the program. These students will commence in SELP at the beginning of the new school year.
